A train was transformed into a ghoulish ride on Southend pier, with plenty of activities for families to enjoy.

The sell-out event saw hundreds of families take part in some Halloween fun which included spooky story time acted out by south Essex drama students at the Royal Pavilion.

Performing arts and dance students also performed four spooky dances, followed by a firework display. There was also face painting for the children, who came in their best Halloween costumes.

Laurraine Lucas, resort officer at Southend Pier, said: “The event went really well, the actors were brilliant. The children all sat at the front and joined in. All the performances from the students go towards their qualification which is great.”

The event has been running on Saturdays since October 24 with the final one this Saturday starting at 6.30pm. Adults tickets are £9 and children £5. For more information, visit visitsouthend.co.uk/whats-on/1113/Southend-Pier-Ghost-Train/
