YOU don't have the be a music expert to enjoy the fun of this new quiz night coming to the Cliffs Pavilion, but you do need to enjoy partying and having a laugh.

The Sounds Familiar Music Quiz, taking place on Saturday January 27 and again on Saturday March 10 at the Martime Room, Cliffs Pavilion, is a "party in a music quiz format".

The hosts play clips of music tracks, and your team has to name the track and the artist... "easy as that", says the SFMQ team, adding: "We have one hundred eclectic tracks per quiz and we only play the best bits.

"By the end of the night, you will be up on your feet (or in some cases the tables) dancing and singing into your inflatable microphones! The party then continues with a disco!"

The SFMQ was created by DJ Al Scott who came up with the idea of revolutionising the music-round from the old pub quiz format and turning that section into a full-on night out and a raucous party.

Coming up with eight or more eclectic music based categories, which make up the quiz and only playing the best bits of the songs, ensures eight parties in one night. The quiz changes on a monthly basis, guaranteeing regulars don’t hear the same categories again and again, keeping it fresh and up to date.

Over the years SFMQ has evolved into the UK’s biggest music quiz, with weekly residencies in London, monthly around the UK and regular festival performances as well as private bookings, weddings and corporate functions.

Due to its ever increasing popularity and success based on the unique ethos of ‘you don’t need to know the answers to have a good time’, SFMQ has grown into one of the biggest names on the alternative nightlife scene.

It comes to the Maritime Room at the Southend theatre in Station Road, on Saturday January 27 and Saturday March 10.

Doors open at 7pm.

There is allocated seating per team.

Tickets are £10 available from southendtheatres.org.uk with no booking fee.
