WHEN you see major celebrities front row at fashion shows, chances are they are checking out the hair looks as much as the clothes.

Being in the public eye means trying to avoid a bad hair day.

But celebs also have to keep up with the latest styles, so here’s a breakdown of trends on show at the recent round of catwalk shows in London, Paris, Milan and New York.

Seen everywhere was the low ponytail – so if you’re going to wear this classic look, make sure you keep it way low and tie your pony at your neck. For loose hair, it’s all about soft, bohemian waves with a deep, low side parting.

Hair-up remains popular. Replace your bun with a messy, thrown together knot if you want to be on trend or, go for a modern take on the French twist – more messy and casual than prim and proper.

Here’s Charlotte Lane’s take on a French twist as seen on Sarah Jessica Parker, above.

Charlotte is a senior stylist at Legend in Southchurch Road, Southend and, like all the Legend team, trains with Central Hairdressing Academy in Southend, the UK’s biggest provider of NVQ level 2 hairdressing.

Start by sectioning the hair into three sections, starting from the crown to the highest point on both ears and take the back section backwards away from the hairline.

Backcomb the back section before combing over to one side and gripping into place. Next, fold the hair over and back onto itself using the edge of your thumb to wrap the hair around itself to create a roll.

Grip the hair along one side to hold in place and secure firmly using Elnett hairspray. Then, pull both sections at the front towards the back and fold around the top of the roll, securing the grips and tucking any remaining hair into the top.
