DARYL Tattoo is the founder of the experimental group the Ears of Xeno.

He is also guitarist in the new-wave alternative rock band FutureAges, fronted by Natasha Fox.

The Ears of Xeno - who play a blend of jazz, avant-garde, world music and rock via improvisation and loops - are just about to release their debut album, EOX, on July 11.

My overall take on a sneak listen before its release, is EXO is a collection of titty-shaking, exotic saxophonic, pulsating jazz-psyche experimental seductiveness. There's something special about the synchronous energy of band which uses a lot of improvisation within its sets, and this album positively shimmers with that electric vibe.

The Ears Of Xeno Group will be celebrating the album launch with a gig at the Railway Hotel, on Thursday July 7, at 9pm.

They say the set will include various themes and new interpretations of songs taken from the album.

WHAT’S YOUR EARLIEST MUSICAL MEMORY?

Ha, my earliest musical memory is probably from about the age of three or four, of me jumping up and down on the couch playing a red plastic clarinet thing I had, miming Saxophone lines to my dads NPG era Prince records.

WHERE DID YOU PERFORM LIVE FOR THE FIRST TIME, WHAT WAS THE OCCASION?

Honestly not sure on this one. Been playing since the age of 11... I remember being grabbed up on stage by blues guitarist U.P Wilson when I was about 14.

FIRST ALBUM YOU BOUGHT?

Two albums that had a big impact on me pre-teenage years would have been: Grace by Jeff Buckley and Terence Trent D'Arby's Symphony or Damn.

LAST ALBUM YOU BOUGHT?

I don't download, and I can never just buy 1 album. The last purchases I remember from recently include:

Blackstar on vinyl as I only had it on CD - this album Is truly incredible. Maybe my favourite Bowie album!

Head Wound City - A New Wave of Violence on limited red vinyl,

Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith's EARS, and the latest Bitches Brew collection on CD for the car.

WHO’S YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION?

Too hard to answer. The people and environment I attempt to surround myself around.

HOW DO YOU DISCOVER NEW MUSIC?

In any which way possible really: I like watching films, so films scores. The radio, internet, review sites, friends, adverts. In any way really.

FAVOURITE LYRIC FROM YOUR OWN BAND/YOU HAVE EVER WRITTEN?

The Ears Of Xeno Group are instrumental, so I would relate this question to FutureAges and say anything Natasha Fox (lead singer of FutureAges) sings or writes. She really has the most incredible voice.

BEST GIG YOU’VE BEEN TO AND WHY?

Kamasi Washington at The Scala last year was an inspiring show - a big fan of his album 'The Epic'. Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes - saw these guys several times last year. They are a great band... so much aggression, which I really relate to. Was also my album of 2015.

Other live shows I loved from the past include The Mars Volta at Somerset House several years ago, I remember the weather being great and setting sun turning the sky alight.

Prince - I saw him five times; three times on the 21 Nights tour and two other times. Every time was simply incredible, A great loss to music and the world in general.

BEST GIG YOU’VE PLAYED AND WHY?

Probably being personally asked by Yoko Ono to play Meltdown Festival with FutureAges at the Southbank Centre the other year. It was pretty overwhelming playing alongside artists and bands I admire like Souxsie, Iggy Pop, Thurston Moore and Deehoof.
