Car smashes into house
A SHOCKED pensioner went to investigate a crash outside his home...and found his own car crushed against the front wall of his house.
Peter Hickey, 74, heard a loud bang and opened his front door to discover his maroon Ford Fiesta rammed against the front of his house in Sandon Road, Pitsea.
Police said the driver of a blue Citroen van had smashed into the parked Fiesta, pushing it up the kerb, just inches away from Mr Hickey's front door.
He said: "I didn't think anything of it when I heard the bang.
"I opened my front door and it took me ages to realise it was my car - just kept staring at it.
"I've lived here 33 years and it has crossed my mind there could be an accident along here, but I never dreamed I would have my car almost come through my front door."
Police said the driver of the car ran away from the scene, shortly after the smash happened at 6pm yesterday. (Sun)
A passenger in the Citroen was taken to Basildon Hospital where he was treated for broken bones.
Insp Dick Thomas, from Laindon road policing unit said: "No-one inside the house was hurt but we will get a structural engineer to look at the safety of the house.
"There are large cracks in the front wall of the house and there is some internal damage."
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Call Insp Thomas on 0300 333 4444 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
