SHRIMPERS striker James Walker faces disappointment whatever the outcome of Friday's second leg play-off showdown at Doncaster Rovers.

The 20-year-old forward is desperate to avoid defeat in a crucial do or die battle at the Keepmoat Stadium.

But, even if his side are successful, Walker will not be able to figure in the final at Wembley as his loan from Charlton Athletic will have expired.

"Of course I'll be angry if we get to Wembley and I can't play because everyone dreams of playing there," said Walker who is expected to sign for Southend permanently during the summer.

"I would rather that happened than us losing on Friday though as it means we would still be in with a chance of getting promotion and playing some great games in the Championship next season."

"On top of that I'm sure I would be there on the day if we got there and even that would be great because I haven't even been to Wembley before."

Walker has scored four goals in 16 games since joining the Shrimpers in February and is hoping to again hit the back of the net as Blues look to build on last Friday's 0-0 draw in the first leg of their semi-final.

There were not many chances in the first meeting between the two teams at Roots Hall but Walker believes Southend did well to secure the stalemate.

"Doncaster are a good team and personally I thought we did well against them," said Walker.

"The way they played they had five men across the midfield who were swapping around and that made it hard for us. We coped well though and now it's all down to a one off game.

"It's a final on its own to be honest and there's no reason why we can't win there."

And Walker insisted his team would not be suffering from nerves, despite there being so much at stake.

"I don't really get nervous and I don't think any of the lads do," he said.

"We're professionals so we have to be able to deal with these situations and I'm sure we can do it."

l DONCASTER boss Sean O'Driscoll is refusing to accept his team are favourites to progress to the final of the play-offs.

"Southend were the league's form team going into the play-offs and the home leg will be just as hard for us," he said.

"Credit to them, they're a good side and often it's harder for the home team."

Why not apply to the league for an emergency extension? Danny Crowe had his loan period extended in the way for the last 2 or 3 matches of the season.

Really???

I just don't think Hooper is cut out for this level, he did ok in league 2 but again when in a southend shirt against Port Vale he didn't look good enough......ok neither did the rest of the team on that day but i think Walker always puts in 100% and makes chances, just need to finish more of them!

If thats his 100% then perhaps we shouldnt sign him permenent i dont know whats so special i mean he isnt even quater of the player eastwood was.

Walker is an excellent player, he links up play well, and hardly ever misplaces a pass. A perfect foil for Barnard. The confusing thing about Barnard in the first leg, was he too was coming too deep to get the ball, when every game ive seen him play previously he is always on the line of the last defender. I really hope we do sign him.

I think it is hard to compare people to Eastwood, he was outstanding for us and could make something out of nothing. Maybe we should get him back for next season as he's been transfer listed.

I just think Walker offers more in way of work rate and closing down Eastwood was a much lasier player but great when he had the ball.

I'd like to see more of Robson-Kanu as he looked pretty good in his little run in the team up front.

Fred has gone get over it why do we look back all the time..JW has a lot of raw potential and is rated highly by better judges than us trust me . He may not be the finished article yet but this club cannot afford to buy proven goalscorers as they cost more than a few bob. The kid is still very young WILL come good and have faith .... Sing his name on Friday and you never know he may just pop up and bag the winner !!!!! UTB

To me its all about body langauge.
I wish Black & Hoops well but to me they walk round with their shoulders hung low and their heads down!! it does'nt give the impression of a fighting spirit, in the way Macca/Bails/Barratt & Clark do which is the attiude the clubs needs.
Why did Black take so long to walk off the field when subbed on Friday?? did he not realize it was our home advantage he was wasting ???
Walker to play wide, Kanu to start up front with Barney???
GGAMMMONNN U Blues!!!!!

Walker is a vital outlet to our team and holds on to the ball really well.

His finishing has a lot of work to be done on it but he is a top player and will only get better.

I'm sorry but Hoops just isn't anywhere near that standard at the moment.

It may be a case of Hoops doesn't fit into our system and way of playing and we shouldn't change it to suit one player.

If we make the final Walker will be a big miss but we have 'Red Rum' Revell or Kanuuuuuuuu to come in and show they can be a hero.

walkers a class player. hes 20 years old with great potential, also hes different to what we have. if we didnt have him running the channels and holding the ball up, we would have been a bit weaker opposition for donny. nows not the time to judge players lets get behind them with this important game vastly approaching.

Wayne was a good player for us, but not sure he is the way forward for the blues????
But intrestingly i see Eastwood has just been put on the transfer list??? worth a punt??
