Luxury flats to revamp Southend's Vic Avenue

A DERELICT office block at the gateway to Southend could be transformed into 36 flats.
Developer Runwood Homes wants to convert eyesore Victoria House, in Victoria Avenue, into a mix of new luxury homes, with a small supermarket on the ground floor.
The office building has lain empty for several years and is one of five vacant tower blocks along the road, lining the main route into the town.
A spokesman for Wincer Kievenaar Architects, which is representing Runwood, said the new plans could rejevunate the area, as well as creating 20 new jobs.
He added: “The site’s present use, and its present state, is a waste of developable land and is detrimental to the local area.
“The redevelopment of this site will not only resurrect the existing building, but also act as a catalyst for redevelopment of the surrounding area.”
