Teen left with serious head injury after hit and run crash (From Echo)

Hit and runs are becoming so common now, hope the young lad gets better soon and the driver has a massive clash of conscious and hands themselves in!

Drugged up driver going through Vange probably.

Why can't I comment on the "MacDonalds" story? Does the Echo reporter realise it's McDonalds? I suppose they never visit one, or drive past then?

In relation to this story, why are there no details about the car? Surely the police have something?

I hope the young lad pulls through, and makes a speedy recovery. To be hit by a car is one thing, but when the driver of that vehicle can't be bothered to check and stay with the victim, it's a horrible circumstance

Whilst i do wish the boy a speedy recovery and i dont condone the driver leaving the scene, i do wonder if the bike had lights as this is so common to see. Is it illegal to ride a bike in the dark without lights?

Yes it is an offence to ride a bike of a night time without no lights. However, the offence is so minor that police simply do not bother pulling people over with no lights on their bikes, I should think and hope they have got far more important things to be doing. Plus the fact, its not as if a cyclist wthout lights on their bike is invisible to the human eye, as on most roads there is street lighting, and the headlights of cars too.

Now all the people that say on here that cycling on the pavement should be a fine of up to £1000 and have your bikes crushed, and I see so many ignorant cyclists on the paths, and other stupid comments like that, I think this is a great example of why people to choose to ride on the paths, because there is so many bad drivers on the road now adays. I think the current fine is £30 for cycling on the pavement, and I think its far more better to recieve a £30 fine, then a severe head injury, or a death sentence.

Totally agree with you, and yes you can see bikes on street lit roads but sometimes they come out of nowhere across or beside you. I had a near miss like this years ago and the cyclist was on a dark bike, wearing dark clothing, no lights or wearing a helmet. Just think they need more legal rules.

Yeah. More cycle routes and tracks would be good, and a bit of common sense on everyones behalf, then roads will be safer.

more cycle tracks and routes would be great - what would be even better is if pedestrians din't saunter down the middle of them or walk three abreast along them thereby forcing cyclists who are using them to hop up onto the footpath.

At the same time it would be fantastic if councils everywhere trimmed back trees and bushes along the side of footpaths so pedestrians weren't forced to walk in the designated cyclepath.

As someone who likes to walk and also to use his bike I can see both sides to the problem but would really like councils to help out by regularly maintaining paths and cycletracks and to see both pedestrians and cyclists to be able and willing to use their designated paths.

A bit more courtesy from motorists to cyclists that actually obey the rules and regulations of the highway code would be nice too
