Essex bosses pledge to save £400 million in radical new project

A RADICAL new project intended to save Essex taxpayers £400 million has been launched.

The public authorities charged with serving Essex’s residents say too often they waste money by failing to work together.

Bosses have identified six issues - skills, growth, domestic abuse, reoffending, health and problem families - where they will pool resources and improve services.

The result is the Whole Essex Community Budgets pilot, a partnership between Essex County Council, districts including Colchester and Basildon, Southend and Thurrock Councils.

Also involved are health, police and criminal justice and other local and community groups.

I will believe all this when I see it! I suppose the article will have to take up all of Thursday's edition in order for it to be credible. This lot couldn't run a bath let alone a crucial strategy proposal such as this .....

Well, it sounds fantastic. A saving of 400 million must be 400+ per council tax payer, which of course would come off of our council tax, right?

The problem is this: the people who need to co-ordinate this efficiency process are part of the cause of the problem. So it will result in less people on the ground actually doing the things which need to be done, with pretty much the same number of people in the management structure above them. They say if you´re at the table, you´re not on the menu. And of course none of the people in that bloated hierarchy is going to say that their own role is unnecessary.

I would rather they try to save 4 million in a realistic way than come up with a ludicrous figure of 400 million per year.

Hmmm ... look closely ... all of this looks like an excuse for more spending so how exactly is that 'saving' money? As romantic states the proof is in the pudding - let's see what impact this grand scheme has on your council tax over the next few years.

How much money did it take for them to come up with this idea and how much will it cost for them to put the plan into action? Waste of my money I'd say.

When will the gas/electric and 'phone companies get their collective acts together so roads/pathways only get dug up once?
