A MAN in his 20s was taken to hospital following a gas leak on Canvey.
Emergency services were called to Central Wall Road at about 3pm today, Monday.
A gas main in the road was ruptured when it was struck by a yellow Peugeot 306 cabriolet.
Gary Sanderson, spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service, said: "One male patient in his 20s, who was the driver of the vehicle, was taken to hospital.
"His condition was not believed to be life-threatening."
An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said a 100 metre hazard zone was set up around the damaged gas main while a Canvey fire crew dealt with the incident.
The gas board was also called to the scene.
Central Wall Road is currently closed between Doverfelt Road and the High Street.
