Fury as Ferry Road still partially closed due to flooding (From Echo)

Has all the machinery and debris been removed now then? It was still blocking the road this morning when I drove past - I was under the impression that this was the reason we were still enduring one lane. There is a "large puddle" under the bridge but I'm not sure it constitutes flooding!

The Echo should be prosecuted for spreading untruths, if they had bothered to get out and verify the rubbish that they are told.
I have been under the bridge both yesterday and today, the lane that is open has a big puddle but you can pass without get your tyres wet, the closed side was full of heavy equipment and various building aggregates, up until 2.30pm today.
I know you like to have a go at the Torys but this is a disgrace.

One lane is closed due to continuing work on the bridge not flooding as would be obvious if Echo could be bothered to investigate.
The emergency crossing is just that to provide access for emergency vehicles if needed, to open it to general traffic would be both impractical and dangerous ,Howard should be well aware of that.

It is closed NOT due to flooding, but the fact the contractors have left all their machinery ON THE HIGHWAY! There is a huge pile of mud that needs to be removed too. Please Echo, don't believe reports about "flooding". Come and see for yourself!!

Come on upset be even handed. Councillor Howard is going to ask Essex CC why the emergency access road wasn't open to ease traffic when the road was originally totally closed on Christmas Eve. Why is he asking? The road was only ever to be opened for emergency vehicles not for residents plus the trains were still running then so could not have been used. Much as Councillor Howard was did well in ensuring that an additional emergency acces road was available over the railway (the other road towards Pitsea from Northwick Road was already the emergency vehicle access) either The "Echo" is misquoting Councilor Howard and he should complain and get it corrected or Councillor Howard is using the "Echo" for political means (as do others). He does not have to have his photo in the "Echo" nor give quotes, but is in there nearly everynight. Just look at his support for getting Rosscommon Way to have traffic calming because of the abuse by racing motorbikes and cars. Councillor Howard wanted the road built whereas most residents think it is a total waste of money. The 2nd phase will benefit who most? The currrent residents or to have 700 houses built on Thorney Bay. When Rosscommon Way was original proposed it was to ease traffic in Long Road not facilitate building on Thorney Bay which now apparently Councillor Howard supports which again the majority of Canvey residents are totally opposed to.
Wheras you may be right or wrong about the "Echo" bashing the Tories they certainly let Councillor Howard and other elected politicians use them and if Councillor Howard and others don't want to get there opnion over using them then they shouldn't should they?

Concise and true. Not finished whatever the cause is it?

The reason it had not opened on one lane is that there was a lot of mud coating the road surface on one lane, that would have been treacherous to drive on. I would guess that lane will now open over the weekend, there was no Puddle, or flooding, just mud on one lane of the road.

They had a machine high pressure spraying and cleaning the road surface this afternoon. Hardly a disaster ffs.

They thought it was all over, it isn't yet....

As has been mentioned this is a totally false story. It looked closed due to the machinery and waste left over from the bridge repair.
I guess the railways are only concerned with their customers and getting the track reopened. Us drivers don't matter to them so they are over-running on clearing the site.
Fury is an over exaggeration, more annoyance! Leave slightly early, take a slight detour and it doesn't cause much problems. As for being flooded, that made me laugh, it's a large puddle. Geez!

BUT, it is the temporary contra flow controlled by traffic lights that is causing congestion. Yesterday at 2pm, the queue waiting at the lights on the Benfleet side was back to Vicarage Hill. This will be MUCH worse on Monday as all the schools reopen. GET THE MACHINERY REMOVED!!

they don't work week-ends, might be best to go the long way round............or join the queue.

it was the river (under the railway bridge) when I first moved to South Benfleet - like the cheap job in constructing Canvey this was a temporary job and never properly invested.

Now we have to pay the consequences - as a guess the contractors did not have any late finish penalty to keep the cost down same as Sadlers Farm that was due to finish in Spring 2012 - looks like it will be 12 months late,

with Canvey Way closed, the whole of South Benfleet was grid locked tonight with people trying to get on & off Canvey via the Ferry Road traffic lights, caused by non existent flooding, but the non removal of machinery. GET IT CLEARED AWAY NOW !!!
