Leigh furniture shop closes after 90 years (From Echo)

Broadway West is the nicest parade in Leigh, the shopkeepers are very welcoming and you can usually get parked there. This furniture shop didnt seem to keep up with the times and the prices were unrealistic. There are some great new shops along there like the Vintage clothing boutique and the Homewares shop with more to follow.

No wonder they've closed - they've had the same dusty window display for the last 20 years. They really ought to have moved with the times in order to stay in business.

How can It be really sad that these shop owners have disappeared after taking thousands of pounds of innocent peoples money in deposits for furniture, that will not be honoured, myself paying them £1500 in december , a deposit on a suite, its fraud , they knew this was happening, well Mr Darren Andrew Launder, we have your home address and we will have our money back . The police have been contacted for the fraud and theft you have commited.

I only went in there once, some years ago. I was approached by a man in his 50s who was the most persistant irritating salesman I have ever met. He would not leave us alone to browse and was almost bullying in his attitude. No wonder this business has shut down if they have a person like that who tries to browbeat the customers into submissive purchases. What a pathetic idiot.

Further to my last post, his name was Jeff. It just came to me, funny how irritating little things stick in your mind somehow!

They did not necessarily know that this closure was coming, it could have been a short notice decision due to several factors. I find you claims of fraud offensive. If administrators have been called in you will be in a queue to get your money back. Go through the proper channels and stop bleating about 'fraud'.

The furniture displayed changed regularly. There were some nice pieces in there, although the presentation of the overall display did look a bit dated.

When you say moved with the times I presume you mean they should have gone downmarket to meet the new demographic of Leigh, ie shiny, sudo-chic, cheap, cheap, cheap....

Therein lies the problem. This councilor is a key figure on Leigh Town Council. Some Leigh traders have been telling them for years that trading is very poor, shops are struggling, using their reserves, life savings in some cases. Other traders have been putting on a brave face and a front to make things appear better than they are. Some traders have even been told not to tell it how it is and make people think the area is still thriving.

The shops that people think are in Leigh are now in places like Hamlet Court Road and Southchurch Road. Well worth a browse.

No, for good quality furniture that is not a lot of money for a deposit. You can buy furniture for a lot less, but not quality furniture that will last.
