Good luck to them, if the courts done their jobs right a house breaker should get 10 years as this is a vile sick crime. This stiff sentence would cut this crime by 90%. But the courts will not do this and the scum that do this crime will continue knowing they just might get community service iof they are caught.

With a justice system that only fines someone £35 for killing, harsh sentencing for burglary is unlikely.

Well done Ron Woodley. Burges Estate residents are soooo lucky to have someone who gets things done. The Residents' Association there are a formidable force!

As I predicted, this is just the start of things as we have a totally ineffective police force and a more than useless judiciary system. How long now before vigilantes take to the streets? - not long I would think!

So does this mean residents wearing high vis "security" vests and issued with their very own "bat phone" will get priority over any other resident in the town when dialling 999? After all, it is not often police give a rapid response from a 999 call these days.
And why should residents have to do the job of the police. Proper beat officers for each area of the town, 24/7 (burglars do not work specific shifts). That is what the public really want.

Anyway, the very fact they are doing this is the result of the governments wholesale destruction of the police force - and other services. Anybody seen the story on the BBC news site about the ambulances

It was always going to happen. If the police cannot do their jobs and protest the residents of the town then residents will feel they have a right to protect their own property. And they do. Just do not be intimidated by the burglars or any that threaten you because that is how some neighbourhood watches fold as no-one will tell on the rotten apple amongst them for fear of reprisals.

Ambulances? don't you mean ambulance, and no I haven't heard of it...

As once happened in another part of the country, the residents' patrols will probably be hailed a success because the burglaries will stop having been displaced to a neighbouring area. The ongoing police investigation will later identify the burglar as one of the residents who actually assisted with the patrols!
