Woman in life-threatening condition following early morning crash in Wickford

A WOMAN has been left with life-threatening injuries following an early morning crash in Wickford.

The emergency services were called to the junction of Golden Jubilee Way and Southend Road just before 3am Saturday after a Ford Focus veered off the carriageway before colliding with the central crash barriers.

Firefighters from Rayleigh Weir and Wickford spent 40 minutes using specialist cutting equipment to free the 30 year-old female driver from the car after she became trapped.

She was taken to Queen's Hospital, Romford, where she is currently being treated for serious head injuries.

Her condition is described as life-threatening.

Golden Jubilee Way was immediatley closed by police and is likely to remain closed until 11am today whilst accident investigations are carried out.

Debris is also being cleared from the road and repairs made to the damaged crash barriers.

Essex Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to call them on 101.
