Southend tower block residents rescued

FIREFIGHTERS have rescued tower block residents stuck in a lift.

A crew from Southend Fire Station lowered the lift to the nearest floor by hand to free the trapped residents after a lift got stuck in Chiltern Flats, Southend, this morning.

The firefighters cut off the power to the lifts to prevent it moving if someone called it at about 7.30am, then lowered it by hand from the motor room.
