GANG injunction has been obtained for the first time in Essex - in an effort to stop a notorious group of Southend thugs.

The civil order aims to prevent the GPD gang, whose name stands for ‘Get Paid Daily, from associating with each other.

The injunction has been successfully obtained against Darren Quainoo, 18, Charlie Cox, 19, and two 16-year-old boys who cannot be named for legal reasons.

They have been given a list of onerous conditions to comply with - including being barred from wearing hoodies or the red scarves which are the gang’s signature.

Other requirements mean they must stay out of Southend’s parks where the gang have committed crimes in the past.

They are also barred from having contact with 33 people connected to the gang - and from being their friends on Facebook.

It also prevents them from posting gang-related videos on the internet. If they breach any of the conditions they will be arrested.

Det Con Richard Burgess, who lead the team which tackled the GPD, said they were seeking injunctions against all the key members of the gang. H

e said: “The reason we’ve gone for it is because we want to take a zero tolerance approach with street gangs of any description and youth nuisance and antisocial behaviour in general."

I have no problem with banging these idiots away for *real crimes*; but this, is just another draconian measure which, in my opinion, is designed/bound to fail.

The severe nature of these orders mean that the majority *will* be broken. This in turn will leave less space (in jail) for those more deserving!

This type of order seems to be a deliberate governmental provocation of article 20 of the universal declaration of human rights.

Most of it also seems pointless - the gang is probably using something other thab Facebook (Google + ?) by now - and defining "hoodie" without forbidding most low-cost clothing seems tricky.

Zero tolerence = Punishment to fit the crime. The majority of the time the crimes these gangs commit means they should be sent to prison.
Can't wear certain cloths and not use facebook for certain activities is hardly zero tolerence.

I would love to bump into these little worms on a dark night. I dont believe banning clothing is going to solve anything so yeah we are going to moan when the Police decide to finally do something and what they decide to do is inadequate. Quite frankly its pathetic, How about putting them on Tag between the hours of 6pm and 6am, Or locking them up for terrorising good, hard working people. Maybe we should try banning them from wearing footwear so they can never go out again ???

Good the earlier they crack down on gangs the better and any deterrent is good. It might seem petty to some but this is only the beginning of real trouble. We don't want youngsters running around with knives and gangs and 15 year olds being stabbed as in other parts of the country.

The police go round banging up big criminals who may live a life of crime & avoid tax but dont really bother everyday people, and just pave the way for these idiots who would have been kneecapped and sent crawling back to mummy a long time ago. Bring back the essex boys, 90's crime was so much better, crims v crims, not these mugs who pick on little kids & old people and literally commit some of the most cowardly acts of petty crime and think it makes them "gangstas". Give me any 1 of them 1 on 1

"those more deserving" you say??? This is a gang that stabs and robs young children in parks, terrorise old women in their cars and bullies anyone that doesn't want to follow them around like they are "gangsters". Not entirely sure what more they have to do to be "deserving" of a jail space :/

I have no qualms about locking people up for any of the above.... but I don't agree with imposing draconian sanctions - for something they *might* do!

If you have one gang then another comes along and then another. Look at London and see the future of Southend. Ban all gangs otherwise vigilantes will do the job the police can't and won't give the little brats a community order ot tag. They'll give them what they deserve - a good hiding. The job the scumbags parents should have been doing as they grew up.

the unfortunate thing about this is youngsters learn from mentors, parents /guardians, councils and governments, and the last two in my opinion set a very poor example , I beleive that people on the whole try to do the right thing however, I am sure that everybody knows or has heard of cases where legitmate claims have been pushed a side, when people have paid insurnce all there lifes without making a single claim yet when a claim arises, they find their not coverd, they have been conned yet are protected by crap legislation from government whitepapers that protect them, it is intimidating and a form of passive bullying, that goes unnoticed, I totally oppose any direct violence to another person, but people are taking the law into their own hands now as the police do realativly nothing, plus the time it takes, the police used to be independant upholders of the law, but now they are told what laws to enforce ask any copper if they are happy, 99% will agree in someway with my last comment. Did you know there ar nearly 4 million cctv cameras in london whatching you evewry move. all of this crap about gangs with hoods, it all about showing a need for more cameras. Hoods are used so that people can pass over someone else is patch, and has esculated to be the norm, this country has it easy compared to brizil columbia or even the states it people power oposing BB the NWO my opinion of course.

I have the Echo delivered and read online and I also get the papers from my friends from Newham and from Barking & Dagenham and crime and incidents in Southend are more reported than anywhere else.

Southend was great in the 50s but now it has to be one of the highest crime area in the uk. 90% of crime news in the Echo is in Southend.

Oh my God what type of people live there now ?

Give it 10 years and it will be a no go area.

I guess this is a tactic being employed to give the police/CPS a better chance of locking them up.

If you went to court saying "these kids are wearing hoods and intimidating people, we also believe they may have dealt drugs and stabbed a few people along the way" the court will want evidence to support this.

With very little evidence you can put these restrictive measure in place, when they break those restrictions the courts have something concrete to consider when passing punishment ;)
