Attempted armed robbery in Southend

AN ARMED robber tried to break into a jewellers by smashing the window with a hammer.

They struck at Andrews jewellers in Southchurch Road, Southend, at about 4.25pm on Wednesday.

Quick-thinking staff lowered the shutters and the man ran off empty handed.

The man was wearing a dark coloured hooded jacket, jeans, white trainers and had his face covered.

Police want to speak to the driver of a red car who may have seen the crook.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Det Con Sam Boyd at Southend police station on 101 or give information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

It's a rough old part of Southend that isn't safe anymore so If I had a jewellers shop there I would seriously re-locate !!!

Does no-one proof read the contents of the articles before being posted? I take it "bby" should've been "by". Any chance of a pic to help id the culprit? I notice the jewellers in York Road has closed down. Have they moved, maybe after their recent robbery, or shut up shop for good because there's less footfall after the council let the York Road Market to rot until they pulled down?

this little area of southend has now become a no go zone the blue top so called officers do not go past greegs because it will interupt there day of of pies and donuts get a grip sbc
