Westcliff hotel could be bulldozed and replaced with flats

How the flats might appear How the flats might appear

THE battle to redevelop a disused hotel is back on.

Sinclair Brown, who owns the Balmoral Hotel, in Valkyrie Road, Westcliff, wants permission to turn it into a block of 25 flats.

The plans are the fourth idea suggested for the building, which has been lying empty for two years.

A statement by ACS Design, which represents the hotel’s owner, Sinclair Brown, said the firm was hopeful it had now found an acceptable solution.

It said: “Planning permission is sought to find the best use for the property, which is currently vacant and, without an agreed use, will only deteriorate to the detriment of the whole area, particularly in view of the building’s prominent location in Valkyrie Road.”

if it's disused better to get some use out of the plot rather than let it fall into rack and ruin

as long as theres enough parking then i don't see what the problem is, its a fair sized road too....hope permission is granted this time round, put the place to good use.

Good luck Sinclair Brown.

You better be quick David. The Prime Minister of Romania has a similar plan.

the area is a sh!thole and needs sorting out. I dont think new flats are the answer. Who would want to buy them in that area for starters??? Westcliff as a whole has gone too far down hill and needs more than a new block of flats to sort it out. Decent CCTV and Patrols would be a good start.

I was going to say something similar about the cars and the developers vision. They obviously doesn't know where Valkyrie Road is!

Just make sure the planning application includes adequate parking for the amount of flats and possible number of residents, and introduce restricted parking in the street out front.

They will definitely make sure, just to keep you happy, they better make sure it has a bike rack as well. Most flats lazy cyclists leave them in the hallway, its an utter disgrace in this day and age!!
