Road rage attack in Thundersley

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a road rage attack in Thundersley.

The victim had got out of his car in Bread and Cheese Hill to remostrate with a driver who was tail-gating him.

He was punched in the head and left needing stitches above his left eye.

Officers believed the vehicle registration could be W995 GDT.

The suspect is described as white, aged around 45, broad shouldered and approximately 6ft 5ins tall with a large nose and grey receding hair.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a dark jacket, stonewash jeans, loafers and had a distinctive gold bracelet on one wrist.

It happened at 8.50pm on Wednesday, February 27.

Anyone who has any information about the incident, or the suspect sought, is asked to call Essex Police on 101 and ask for PC Lisa-Ann Gore.

Plenty of bad and inconsiderate drivers around these parts. The mistake is getting out of the car to confront them. If there aggressive behind the wheel they are usually aggressive full stop!

If they have the number plate then presumably that's a pretty good lead to the 'offender'?

Reading the comments already posted on here, people seem to think that tailgating is perfectly acceptable, so you people are quite happy to have it happen to you??? As far as I am concerned tailgating is another form of bullying & getting out of your car & punching someone who is willing to stand up for themselves only proves that. People that tailgate are mindless idiots!!

I detest tailgaters, and I agree people that tailgate are mindless idiots with no consideration for anyone but themselves.

A quick check shows that the registration number is either wrong or the vehicle isn't insured.

Could be a case of the victim sticking to the 30mph limit and the other driver not liking it or not being able to use his throttle control properly.

Sounds like self defence to me too, if the car in front stopped (blocking me from escaping) and the bloke got out of the car and came angrily over, I'd do what I could to defend myself as well.

I have a simple answer to getting tail gated, SLOW DOWN, they will then overtake you and go on their merry way.
DO NOT speed up, it may be an unmarked police car wanting you to get out of his way, speed up and get a ticket.

Or maybe someone not realising that the bus lanes only operate for a couple of hours in the morning and evening.
Although that is no excuse for this sort of behaviour.

I went on a speed awareness course once, and the instructor asked how you deal with a tailgater.

He then showed us the Highway Code - which states you should increase the gap from the car in front, in case of a rear-end impact, but continue to drive at a safe speed within the limit. Should the driver not back off, let them pass when it is safe to do so.

I don't recall him pointing out a section that states - pull over and get out of your car to remonstrate.

In fact, getting out of your car to have a go is Road Rage in itself. So you could say he started it. It's hard to feel sorry for a victim when there was a much easier solution - carry on driving.

If I get tailgated I just put on my hazard lights (well tailgating is a hazardous thing to do) they think you are breaking and automatically hang back, take them off and repeat if they tailgate again. I wouldnt get out of the car cause if the are inconsiderate enough to do it in the first place they are hardly going to apologise for doing it.
