Disused Westcliff hotel to be turned into flats

How the flats might appear How the flats might appear

A DISUSED hotel will finally be redeveloped, more than two years after it fell empty.

Southend Council has rubber-stamped plans to bulldoze the Balmoral Hotel, in Valkyrie Road, Westcliff, and rebuild it as 25 flats.

The proposals are the fourth idea suggested for the building, which has been dogged by controversy since it closed down in 2011.

Paul Seager, director of architects ACS Design, which drew up the plans on behalf of owner Sinclair Brown, said he was pleased permission had been granted.

He added: “It has been a long time coming, but the important thing now is that we know what the future of the Balmoral will be.

“The owners will now either sell the property to a developer or develop it themselves.

“We have had expressions of interest already, so now we have full permission we will be able to press ahead with this as soon as possible.”

As I said when this story first appeared a couple of weeks back, it'll make a good bail hostel.

So there's space already for the 50 odd cars that the 25 flats will require??

Westcliff is no worse a place to live than anyway else in the borough.
Its good to see brown sites being redeveloped but parking is already a problem in that area with commuters parking their private property a close as possible to the station.

Replacing some disused buildings with flats? Now that IS news. Who would have thought of that, eh?

"Paul Seager, director of architects ACS Design"

They are not architects, they have been reported to the architects registration board numerous times but still seem to flout the law as "architect" is a legally protected title limited to persons registered with the ARB and the RIBA. Unfortunately neither Mr Segar ore his company are note registered with either!
