Civil servants to go on strike tomorrow

Civil servants to go on strike tomorrow Civil servants to go on strike tomorrow

BENEFIT claims, driving tests, and job centre appointments are all set to be disrupted as civil service workers stage a national strike this week over pay, pensions, and conditions.

The Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) has said its members will refuse to work tomorrow and has warned that the day of disruption will be “just the beginning” in a three-month programme of action.

The union claims that central Government is refusing to negotiate, and says it expects nearly all of its members in the south east of the county to mount picket lines tomorrow.

It is estimated that there are 1,000 union members in just HM Revenue and Customs alone in the area.

Andrew Lord, branch secretary of the PCS in south east Essex, said: “This will cause some disruption to the public which is regrettable, but if the Government was prepared to talk to us about our concerns then there would be no need for this action.

“The civil service has seen hard-earned terms and conditions being chipped away while it has been subjected to pay freezes as the cost of living goes up.

“People in Southend and the county are very angry and upset about the way they have been treated."

What I still don't understand about the government's programme of cuts is why on earth they've chosen to attack the military, police and civil service so savagely. Without these three onboard their whole programme of reform is undeliverable.

Just another illustration I suppose of how Cameron's ineptitude has done so much damage to the Conservative party's image they've become unelectable as the party of government.

I wonder if this will be reflected in May's local election results?

What you, and most people fail to understand, is the whole lot need to be cut, to make them leaner, and thus more cost effective, thanks to the past Labour governments mis-handling, of their budgets, cuts are the only answer.
A lot of extra needless people and sub-departments grew and grew under Labour, living in a dream world, creating their own little empires, those days are over, at the end of the day, people will always make do, time to cut away the dead wood, and move forwards, away from the old Labour way of doing things, which was to plough more money, into an already laden area.

We are very lucky in this country. Our civil service has been wasting money for donkeys years, so at least we have something to cut.

Not really, I will just have to increase the rents, after all we all have to suffer a bit, cheers.
