Firefighters cut man from his car following crash on A13

A MAN was rushed to hospital after having to be cut from his car following a crash on the A13.

Firefighters rushed to the scene on the London-bound carriageway after a black Volkswagen Beetle collided with a black SmartCar between the Orsett Cock and Dock Approach turn offs at around 10am on Saturday.

Crews from Grays, Orsett and Brentwood had to use specialist cutting equipment to release the 35-year-old man after he became trapped.

The man was cut free by 10:30am and was then taken to Basildon Hospital with a cut to his head and a suspected broken shoulder.

A second casualty had been released before firefighters arrived.

Police were forced to shut one land of the busy dual carriageway while the scene was cleared.

It was reopened by 11:20am.
