A KITESURFER sustained a broken leg after losing control on Shoebury Common.

The RNLI search and rescue hovercraft was launched at 11.20am on Sunday to reports of an injured man who had been kitesurfing.

He was found about half a mile off the shore at Shoebury Common.

The 29 year old man was ferried safely ashore to Shoebury Common slipway, where he was transferred to Southend Coastguard’s facility to be given medical assistance by the volunteer crew and a paramedic while waiting for an ambulance.

An air ambulance was sent to the scene but was stood down as a land ambulance arrived.

The man was taken to Southend Hospital with a suspected broken leg and hypothermia.
