AN EIGHT-HOUR musical extravaganza is being held in memory of a talented Canvey singer and to raise cash for four good causes.

The CDS (Combined Disability Services), which provides live music and disco nights for disabled people on the island, is organising an all day music festival in association with Dream Team West End Stage Productions this summer.

The free festival at the Lobster Smack pub, in Haven Road, is being held in honour of Canvey-born musical theatre star and singer, Linda Kendrick, who died in 2010.

Linda, who was 58 when she died from pneumonia, was an accomplished cabaret singer and sang at clubs across the UK and played Jeanie in the original West End production of the musical Hair. She also performed in a number of other London shows and later toured with the Kinks and Elton John as a backing singer.

The day will start off with a sponsored walk from the Monico pub to the Lobster Smack at 10am, music from about ten acts will then get underway from 12pm and run through to 8pm.
