TOO far to hop on a train to London? Theatre fans in Basildon can get their taste of great theatre with a cinema screening direct from the National Theatre.

The live screening of James Graham’s much- acclaimed This House is tomorrow, and tickets are expected to sell out fast.

Set in the corridors of Westminster in 1974, it captures a time when votes are won and lost by one, where there are fist fights and brawls in Westminster bars and sick MPs are carried through the lobby to register their all-important vote.

Stripping back the hustle and bustle to reveal the humans who creak beneath the mechanisms of government, determined to get things done and deal with the practical realities of day-to-day life, the play has already received top ratings and reviews.

It’s the second screening in a three-part series from the National Theatre, which will finish with a showing of the Audience, starring Southend actor Helen Mirren, which is currently running to critical acclaim.

It’s the latest in a string of diverse cultural offerings from the Empire cinema, which has also hosted sellout events from the Royal Opera House and Royal Ballet.

This House is screened at the Empire Cinema, Festival Leisure, Basildon tomorrow, May 16, at 7pm. To book visit www.EmpireCinemas.co.uk or call 08714714714. The Audience is screened on June 13.
