Don't fall prey to housing scam, detectives warn
HOUSE hunters are being warned not to call for a suspected fraud being carried out in Thurrock.
Hundreds of leaflets have been distributed in the Grays, Tilbury and Chadwell St Mary areas of the borough, claiming to offer a cheap deal for people looking for accommodation.
The pamphlets, which are headed 'Your Deserved Accommodation Guaranteed', promise to find homes for an administration fee of £155 as part of a so-called government sponsored scheme called “Home for All”.
However detectives, probing where the leaflets have come from, have confirmed there is no such government scheme and are warning people not to fall prey to the potential scam.
Anyone with information about the leaflets can contact Det Sgt Hart at Grays police station on 101.
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of fraud in connection with the investigation and have been bailed while officers continue to investigate.
