A WOMAN from Hockley won a national burger competition that was judged by a member of boy band JLS.

Jenny Long was named the Simply beef and lamb Battle of the Burgers Champion 2013 at a cook-off in London after seeing off seven other finalists to win the prestigious accolade and cash prize.

Jenny cooked up her ‘Mum's Sunday Lunch Spectacular Burger’ in front of pop star JB Gill and a panel of expert burger connoisseurs, who judged the recipes live and decided on the winner that same day.

JB said: “Jenny’s creation was burger perfection.

“The ingredients and flavours combined made for a melt in your mouth burger and we are delighted to name Jenny our champion.

“It just goes to show with some innovative thinking and novel ideas you can turnasimple burger into a culinary feast!”

Rebecca Miah, from organisers Simply beef and lamb, said: “Jenny blew us away with her flavoursome and succulent burgers and we’re thrilled to name her the champion.

“I hope the great British public will be inspired by her winning burger and will start cooking up their own versions of Jenny’s burger during the final weeks of our barbecue summer.”
