Driver may be fined for pavement damage
6:00am Tuesday 8th October 2013 in News
A DRIVER could face a hefty fine under new powers after allegedly causing about £1,000 of damage to a pavement.
Southend Council is investigating the driver of a lorry parked in Tyrone Road, Thorpe Bay, near a property where building work is being carried out.
Independent Thorpe Bay councillor Ron Woodley photographed the parked lorry and reported it to the council.
The authority could fine the driver under its new environmental enforcement policy, introduced in June.
Karon Grant, the council’s team leader for environmental care, said: “The council is committed to deter and recover costs where any damage is incurred by motorists who are caught driving on or over the footway.”
She added that not only were paths and verges damaged, but often utility pipes, which run underneath them.
