Man charged with string of motoring offences following high-speed police chase on Canvey
6:00am Wednesday 9th October 2013 in News
A MAN has been charged after a highspeed police chase on Canvey.
Two men were arrested after a car failed to stop for police on the island on Sunday afternoon.
Officers, along with the Essex Police helicopter, followed a red BMW after it was seen in the New Road area at about 4.45pm.
They then tailed the car along residential streets, including Somnes Avenue and Link Road.
Onlookers claimed the driver mounted the kerb and it is thought the vehicle also narrowly missed several passing cars as it weaved in and out of traffic.
The car then raced round to Heather Close, off Thorney Bay Road, where the two occupants jumped out.
However they were cornered by officers just a few minutes later and arrested at Thorney Bay Caravan Park.
A 23-year-old man was later charged with dangerous driving, driving without insurance or a licence, and theft from a shop on July 13 at Morrisons supermarket in Northwick Road, Canvey.
A 19-year old man from Basildon has since been released without charge.
The 23-year-old has been released on police bail and is due to appear at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on October 24.
