Francois given ministerial role
A SOUTH Essex MP has been promoted as part of a Government reshuffle.
Mr Francois takes on the role after a year as minister for defence personnel, welfare and veterans, in the Ministry of Defence.
It is the makes him the number two minister in the department, effectively the Defence Secretary’s right-hand man.
Mr Francois, who served in the Royal Anglian Regiment during the Cold War, said: “I will continue to take an interest in veterans’ issues, but my new focus will now be on making sure the Armed Forces are in good shape to defend our freedom for years to come.”
Meanwhile, Mike Penning, who was former Rochford and Southend East MP Teddy Taylor’s election agent, will take on the role of Department for Work and Pensions.
Mr Penning also stood for election in Thurrock in 2001, and is nowMP for Hemel Hempstead.
He was Northern Ireland minister before former Armed Forces Minister Andrew Robathan took on the role.
