7:59pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
FLIGHTS to and from Southend Airport have been delayed today because of industrial action by air traffic controllers in France.
The action, which is due to end at 8pm has seen flights delayed up to an hour-and-a-half.
Flights due in form Barcelona and Berlin arrived 30-minutes late while flights from Alicante and Edinburgh were delayed by more than an hour.
Departures are also facing delays this evening and passengers are advised to check departures and arrivals on the Southend Airport website Across its routes, easyJet said it had cancelled 56 flights to and from French airports.
The airline said the strike will also impact all flights that over-fly French airspace. More than 60 per cent of easyJet’s flights operate through French airspace.
In a statement easyJet said: “ Currently we are seeing some delays mainly to destinations in Iberia.
“For any customers whose flight is cancelled easyJet will offer a full refund or a free of charge transfer.
“Despite the fact that this disruption is beyond easyJet’s control we apologise in advance for the inconvenience that this will cause to our customers.
