New market launched in Southend High Street
EAGER shoppers flocked to a new market in Southend Thursday.
The High Street was buzzing with people looking for a bargain as stallholders settled into their new surroundings.
Thirteen stalls running from the rail bridge up to WH Smiths offered shoppers goods including clothing, homeware, flowers, fruit and veg, baked foods and fresh fish.
Victoria Prior, who runs a bakery stall as part of a family business, said the market is just what the town needs to get more people into the High Street.
She said: “This is great, absolutely 100 per cent. Southend needs something to get the people down here in the town. The market makes it more interesting for everyone.
“A lot of people have said they’re pleased to see us down here and will be back next week. Hopefully the people coming down here will make use of the High Street when Roots Hall eventually closes.”
