Havens withdraws appeal for hospice on Leigh green belt
2:42pm Tuesday 15th October 2013 in News
HAVENS Hospices has withdrawn its appeal to build a new hospice in Leigh to concentrate its efforts on securing an agreement for another piece of land.
Since June, Havens Hospices and Bellway Homes have discussed the possibility of a new adult hospice forming part of the developer’s plans for the old Ekco site in Southend.
To allow for htis to happen Havens and Southend Council jointly asked to defer the appeal for the land in Belton Way, Leigh in June until this week.
Now it has withdrawn the appeal completely.
Andy Smith, Chief Executive of Havens Hospices says, "We have always promised that if a suitable brownfield site was to become available, we would withdraw our planning application for Belton Way.
"We are being true to our word. In an ‘act of good faith,’ withdrawing the Appeal is a demonstration that we are very serious about securing a solution on the Ekco site, and in turn securing the future of hospice care in the area."
