Man jailed for bank robbery
A BANK robber has been sentenced to two years in prison – thanks to an Echo appeal.
Gary Horn, 56, of Hainault Avenue, Westcliff, walked into Lloyds TSB in London Road, Westcliff, and demanded cash on August 19 this year.
The unemployed man walked off with a four figure sum, sparking a police media appeal.
Members of the public recognised the man from the CCTV image published in The Echo and alerted police.
He was sentenced to two years in prison at Basildon Crown Court today after pleading guilty to robbery.
Investigating officer, Dc Adam Maskell, of the Serious Organised Crime Unit, said: "I would like to thank those members of the public who helped in identifying the offender so that he could be brought to justice, as well as The Echo for issuing the appeal which directly led to this man’s arrest.
“This sentence demonstrates that no matter how desperate your financial difficulties may seem, this kind of crime is never an option and will not be tolerated by the court regardless of previous good character.”
