Four arrested in police traffic operation in Southend
FOUR people were arrested on Thursday during a police operation to detect and deter criminals operating in Southend.
Operation Talon, which brought together specialist units and local officers, used automatic number plate technology to identify suspicious drivers or vehicles using main roads in the area.
A total of 174 vehicles and people were stopped and checked.
The four arrests were: a 32-year-old man from Canvey arrested on suspicion of drink driving, a 31-year-old from London on suspicion of common assault and harassment, a 29-year-old man from Benfleet, on suspicion of handling stolen property and a 52-year-old man from Benfleet on suspicion of drink driving.
Officers also seized 16 vehicles and issued 28 non-endorsable fixed penalties and 15 endorsable fixed penalties for traffic offences.
Supt Adrian Coombs who led the operation said: "This was the latest day of action in the Operation Talon series and so far these operations have been well-received by members of the public and we have had plenty of positive feedback in the areas where we have carried out these operations.
“Many more Operation Talon days will be held across the county on a regular basis.”
