A LUXURY seafront development is still standing empty, despite being completed over a year ago.

Work on the Nirvana apartments, in The Leas, Westcliff, began in 2007 and was finished last year but they still aren’t on the market.

In February, a legal dispute between the owner of the development and the owners of a six-inch strip of land close between the site and neighbouring Bellway Court was holding up the process.

The issue should have been resolved by now, but the apartments are still not up for sale.

Mike Gray, managing director of Dedman Gray who have been marketing the properties, said: “It is right that they are not being offered for sale at the moment. There will be a further announcement soon.

“Regarding the legal dispute and the strip of land, all I can say is that there will be something we can say very soon.”

Members of the Chalkwell Ward Residents Association opposed originally opposed the development itself.

Secretary Lucy Courtenay, of Crowstone Avenue, Westcliff, said: “The view was that it’s not the most attractive of buildings but having built it, it’s a great shame it’s still standing empty.”

Member Jane Hendry added: “We’ve been trying to find out the situation from our councillors, but there seems to be little information available.”

The apartments are expected to be priced upwards of £1m.
