A ROAD is so badly damaged houses shake when lorries go past, according to one homeowner.

Gary Lampit, 46, is calling a surveyor to inspect his home in Mariskals, Pitsea, because he is so worried about lasting structural problems.

He claims his toilet has even moved position because of passing traffic.

Highways bosses at Essex County Council now accept the pothole ridden road needs repairing, but Mr Lampit thinks it is too late.

He said: “When I first moved in six years ago the windows would creak a little bit when cars went past, but since then it has got a lot worse.

“My toilet has moved and the whole house shakes, you couldn’t make it up. If it happens to me I’m sure it must happen to other people.

“Highways engineers have been down here a lot, but all they do is fill the holes in, and within a few weeks the road has cracked again and we’re back at square one. We need long-term action taken.

“If there turns out to be anything wrong with the building I will be suing the council. It can’t get away with this.”

Last week the Echo revealed Angela Nicholson, 45, is taking Essex County Council to court after the same road, at the junction of Wickford Avenue, caused £600 damage to her classic Jaguar.

Highways bosses refused to compensate her for new alloy wheels and repairs to the chassis because the road was found to be in a “reasonable condition” during the last inspection.

A full repair will now take place early next year according to County Hall. A spokesman said: “Essex Highways is aware of this carriageway defect and has programmed a full repair to be conducted in January 2014.”
