KINGSDOWN Special School has closed early for Christmas due to  problems with building work.

The school in Snakes Lane, Southend is closed a week before the end of term.

Work to replace the roof has been ongoing since the end of July and has been affected by delays and leaks.

Further problems led to the decision by the head teacher Margaret Rimmer on Wednesday.

Pupils at the school have physical and leanring disabilities.
