A MAN had to be cut free after flipping his car over onto a roundabout in Basildon.

The 24-year-old, who was treated in hospital, was arrested on suspicion of driving while over the alcohol limit after the Ford Focus landed on its roof in the middle of the roundabout at the junction of Eastmayne and Cranes Farm Road at 4am today.

Police said the driver appeared to have lost control, struck the kerb of the roundabout, and then struck several trees.

The vehicle came to rest on its roof in the middle of the roundabout.

Firefighters cut free the driver, who was from Basildon, and an ambulance took him to hospital, but his injuries are not believed life-threatening.

He was bailed until February 8 pending further enquiries.
