We do listen to the public, says council leader

SOUTHEND Council does listen to the public, its leader has claimed.

Nigel Holdcroft said the council takes petitions and responses to public consultations into account, but other factors are considered before making decisions.

Speaking at a full, the Tory said: “We do give weight to the petitions we receive, which often indicate strength of feeling on an issue, but it is our responsibility to review every issue in the round, an opportunity which the signatories on some petitions do not always have.”

He was speaking after plans for a seawall in Shoebury, the closure of two care homes and proposals to hand over libraries to volunteers despite huge public opposition were agreed.

. "Nigel Holdcroft said the council takes petitions and responses to public consultations into account," (then forthrightly dismisses them)
. "but other factors are considered before making decisions." (such as; I really don't like this tie, ha! councillor cox has toilet tissue attached to his left shoe, its really dark today, why wont this pen work, I must but milk on the way home)
. “We do give weight to the petitions we receive" (0.01 grams)
. "which often indicate strength of feeling on an issue" (contrary to the one the council have in mind)
. "it is our responsibility to review every issue in the round" (A 'round' of sandwiches at the place where we made the decision. Then a 'round' of golf where we discuss and consider the decision further)

His name has already been mention but Cllr Cox is, indeed, one of the worst culprits when having contempt for the views of the public.
