A DRIVER had to be cut from his car after careering off the road and smashing into a bus stop.

Emergency services were called to Furtherwick Road, Canvey at around 9am on Sunday after the driver of a silver Hyundai lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a bus shelter near the Monico pub.

Police were forced to shut the road while firefighters cut the man free from the car which had landed on its side.

The man's injuries are not thought to be serious.

An Essex Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to the junction of Furtherwick Road and Eastern Esplanade at around 9am on Sunday after a silver Hyundai collided with a bus shelter and ended up on its side.

“The fire service removed the male driver from the car but his injuries are not thought to be serious. The council came out and removed the bus shelter and police are investigating the incident.”
