Prince of Wales to visit Southend

Echo: Prince of Wales to visit Southend Prince of Wales to visit Southend

PRINCE Charles is set to pay a visit to Southend this month, it has been revealed.

His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales will visit the Palace Theatre on Wednesday, January 29, to attend a special lunchtime performance as part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival.

The Duchess of Cornwall will also be in attendance, as 30 children from six schools spanning the country perform, including pupils from Southend’s very own Futures Community College.

The prince last saw the festival in 2004 at a West End performance. Since then, the festival has featured more than 100,000 schoolchildren aged eight to 18 perform in shows across the country.

The Palace Theatre has a long association with the festival, having hosted performances for a number of years.

Theatre director Ellen McPhillips said it was always a wonderful event.

She said: “We are, of course, incredibly delighted that HRH the Prince of Wales, and his wife, will be visiting the Palace Theatre.

“We are aware of the prince’s interest in architecture and the festival, and we hope he will be interested in the Palace Theatre building itself, which, of course, celebrated its centenary in 2012.”

Southend last received a royal visit in July 2013, when the Duke of Kent officially renamed the £3million cultural centre as the Royal Pavilion.

Oh do shut up you moaners. The royal family cost you about 65p a year whereas the ghastly EU more like two or three grand, your contribution to the £53m a day it takes to be a member of this diktat headed by unelected officials.

The royals are great ambassadors for this country and create jobs and also increase the goodwill and feelgood factor.

I am not rolling in it but I don't begrudge them. I am not a huge Charles fan but it does get on my thruppennies when I hear people bellyaching about something that is part of our heritage whether you like it or not.

This country's history is rich and varied, thanks to the Kings and Queens that go back centuries. Not all were nice people but they each contributed something to what we are today.

People like you just want to destroy it and be part of a global, no borders mishmash.

Start bellyaching about what really is hitting your pockets instead of jumping on the Republican bandwagon.

I bet the parents of the kids involved aren't **** and bellyaching. This will be something their kids can remember for the rest of their lives.

Fantastic news for... inequality, encouragement of political meddling/lobbying by the monarchy, those that do not believe we are all born equal, further politically influenced profits from Duchy land and those that support handing over our hard earned taxes to a blessed family.

As for talking about future presidents, citing past dictators does not help the debate. Modern republics exist and are are more equal and fairer than the UK will ever be.

As for the Windsor's being good ambassadors please....what about Andrew's political rants and arms dealing, Harry's antics, Charles's political meddling etc, oh but wait doesn't Kate look lovely, get real please. What a sad state of affairs that all she is here for is to look pretty and procreate. What dated times we live in.

Go forth subjects and wave your pathetic flags.

Maths isn't your strong point is it £56m divided by the population (let's say 60m) equals 93p per day. Totalling £340.00 per year according to your figures not quite the £2k to £3k you quote. Not that the anti EU brigade would like to give a false impression of the cost!

As it happens I agree with your views on the cost of the Royal Family; people should remember if we didn't support them we'd have another useless politician as head of state!

At least Charlie can admire the architecture of a surving piece of Southend Heritage. Perhaps he can be taken on a tour of where the rest used to stand in "Culture City" including the sites of where the listed building once stood. His grandma opened Civic Centre but dont suppose he'd want to be brought into town via Victoria Avenue as it looks today. Don't think he'd be too impressed.

some people clearly welcome the visit and some don't. We can't please everyone so those who are not supportive of the visit don't need to go along and show their support and let those who do enjoy the moment. Life isn't all about what an individual wants its a balance of the 2. I don't like the fact that there are many freeloaders amongst the royal family but I am happy to support the Queen,Charles,Camill
a and the closest heirs. I do not envy their life and wealth one little bit. It must be a lovely privileged life but would you really want their it? Always in the spotlight spending most of your days meeting the public, year after year after year. They do a wonderful job promoting the royal family which many of the people of this country support and want. I am not a massive royalist but I certainly do not want them to go. Yes Westcliff has its problems but do any of you Monarchy Haters really believe it would improve if we abolished the Monarchy?

The monarchy in Britain is not really to be judged on cost. It is quite possibly no dearer to run than a presidential office might be. It is, however, about the message it sends to the average person about the wealth and privilege that is only available to those who inherit their titles and all that goes with them through accident of birth. Presidential office in general can be earnt by talent and hard work. Not an option for anyone in the UK under our present elitist system.

For everyone who thinks the royal family is good and brings us tourists, please shut up they cost us more than what they bring for this country.
We pay our taxes so the royal family can invest in arms manufacturers and shady property deals. (Queen has made a fortune from investing in arms manufacturers before wars have started)
The queen is not even the correct heir to the thrown (proven by Tony Robinson from Time Team on a documentary).
Prince Phillip is a nazi and had his surname changed, (see google for a picture of him in a nazi march)
They killed Dianna (see Dianna's note that she wrote saying her husband was planning a car crash).
They are inbred so they keep the bloodline going.
Charles doesn't pay tax on the income he gets from his properties (he said publicly in an interview he only invests in green land and farmers fields yet a Waitrose Delivery Warehouse was built, he owns a prison which we pay him rent on! and he bought farmland and sold it to a supermarket).
He says he voluntarily pays income tax (partially) because we are all in it together! what a load of rubbish.
We pay annual salaries if you want to call them that to do nothing apart from visit places, shake hands and insult people, read a queens speech, and knight people and give them statuses (see wikipedia for how many celebrities and famous people turned their offer down).

The royal family was good friends with Jimmy Saville don't forget, and you can't think that they didn't know what was going on. It is mi5's duty to protect the royal family and they know everything, they wouldn't let a paedophile near them and everyone is vetted. They knew..
