POLICE closed part of Victoria Avenue yesterday afternoon.

Victoria Avenue was shut off northbound from the Victoria Circus junction, from 5.50pm.

It was shut while police pursued an assault suspect who had fled from the yard at Southend police station.

He was arrested a short while later.
