TRAFFIC was halted on a busy highway after a car caught fire on a roundabout.

The Ford Focus caught fire on a roundabout under the A127 at the Fairglen Interchange, Rayleigh, yesterday at about 3.50pm, causing the eastbound entry and exit slip roads of the A127 to be closed.

Firefighters tackled the fire wearing breathing apparatus and used one hose reel. Crews extinguished the blaze by 4.07pm. All lanes were reopened by 4.36pm.
