POLICE want to speak to this masked man in connection with two armed robberies at newsagents just before Christmas.

The first image relates to a robbery at Martin’s newsagent in Ballards Walk, Basildon where a cashier was threatened with a knife and forced to hand over a three figure sum of cash.

The terrifying raid happened just before 7.30am on Wednesday, December 11.

The second image relates to a robbery in Clay Hill Road in Basildon.

A man walked in to the shop, picked up an energy drink from the chiller cabinet and walk up to the till demanding money.

He left with a two figure sum of cash in notes and some change, as well as some tobacco.

The incident happened at 8.05am on December 13.

Detectives have connected the two robberies.

Investigating officer, Dc Nick May, said: "These robberies would have been very distressing for the staff members at these stores, who were simply trying to do their jobs when they were targeted.

"The images are really quite clear, particularly the one from the Clay Hill Road robbery, so I’m really hoping someone will recognise this man and contact police.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Dc May, or his colleagues at Basildon, on 101. Alternatively, call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
