A WOMAN is in a critical condition after her 4x4 was hit by a lorry earlier this morning in Stanford-le-Hope.

The woman, believed to be in her 20s, had to be cut free from her vehicle by the fire service following the incident on Corringham Road just before 10am.

She has been taken to Queens Hospital, Romford, and is being treated for head injuries and possible pelvic and leg damage.

The air ambulance was also at the scene but wasn’t needed.

The incident caused long delays in the town centre, blocking the Corringham Road junction with The Green and Wharf Road. The road is now fully open.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "The woman was treated for head injuries and possible pelvic and leg damage. On arrival at hospital she was believed to be in a critical but stable condition."
