Conditions at Brooke House to be discussed
COUNCILLORS are set to discuss ways of improving the living conditions of a notorious tower block.
A six-month review carried out by Basildon Council found the Grade II-listed Brooke House, in the town centre, was not suitable for children and should not be marketed as family accommodation.
Recommendations to manage concerns about antisocial behaviour and the cleanliness of the building will be discussed by the Tory administration when cabinet members meet next week.
It comes after ten Brooke House residents, including eight council tenants and two leaseholders, attended a witness session to talk about their experiences, while others submitted their views in writing.
They agreed the majority of problems were down to a small number of residents or visitors causing deliberate damage or misusing the facilities.
There are now plans in place to introduce an overnight security guard and have cleaners working at weekends.
The cabinet meeting will take place at the Basildon Centre from 7pm on Thursday.
