HE’S fallen to earth from five miles high, bungee jumped into water from 380 feet and trekked across the Arctic with a group of huskies – and now Ray Woodcock is coming to a TV screen near you.

Taxi driver Ray, 71, of Rayleigh Road, Eastwood, will appear on CBBC show Officially Amazing next week where his bungee jump will be shown.

Ray’s jump more than doubled the previous world record.

It was his second entry into the Guinness Book of World Records, after completing the highest civilian tandem skydive back in November 2012.

Ray said it was a surprise he was going to be on the show, which documents “weird, incredible and officially amazing” people who try to break world records across the globe.

He said: “I found out on Sunday they were airing the dive, and I was extremely surprised.

To get a call to say it’s going on is the icing on the cake for me. When something goes on TV you think, “Goodness me, they must be impressed.”

“I haven’t seen it yet and I can’t wait to watch it. I’ll be glued to it.

“It’s going to be a lot safer watching it back. Looking back at the pictures, I dowonder how I did it!”

Ray has conquered a number of challenges since the age of 63 to raise money for a range of local charities, including a jungle trek through Borneo, driving a team of huskies 250km in the Arctic, trekking through Death Valley, in Nevada, and scaling three erupting volcanoes in Sicily.

He has also enjoyedwing-walking and white water rafting.

Despite doing all this, daredevil Ray is keen to add to his two Guinness world records.

He said: “I definitely want another world record. The next one I want to do is another bungee jump into water, but this time I’ll be on fire as well.”

Ray would have to beat the currently held record of 214ft, to achieve a new record and he hopes to start planning the feat as soon as he has sponsorship.

He added: “If it’s possible I’d like to beat my bungee jump into water by one metre at 381ft, so I can beat two records in one go.

“It depends on the burn time – they’ll have to work out how many seconds I can jump before the flames burn through the wetsuit.”
