POLICE have named the man who died in hospital after being assaulted in Hockley.
Peter Wilmot, 41, was found unconscious in the Broad Walk area shortly before 7am on Saturday by a member of the public.
He was taken to Southend Hospital by paramedics, but later transferred to Romford’s Queens Hospital. On Monday he died.
Detectives are continuing to investigating the homicide.
A post-mortem examination was conducted on Wednesday and a provisional result showed the Mr Wilmot of Colbert Avenue in Southend died from head injuries.
Glen Cooper was arrested on Saturday in Westcliff and later charged with one count of causing grievous bodily harm.
The 36-year-old warehouseman from Broad Walk in Hockley appeared at Southend Magistrates Court on Monday.
He was remanded in court custody prior to his court appearance at Basildon Crown Court week commencing on Tuesday, May 6.
