A SOLAR farm the size of 37 football pitches could be built in Billericay.

Developer MS Power has been in talks with Basildon Council about the creation of what would be south Essex’s second solar farm, on land off Outwood Farm Road and Coxes Farm Road.

The 8ft-high panels would be split between two pieces of land near the country road and would generate enough to supply 2,500 local homes.

YesterdayMS Power said it had yet to finalise its proposals.

A planning application is expected to be submitted to the council in the next few months, after it was agreed the development’s impact on the environment did not need to be assessed.

Last November, plans for a solar farm in Laindon were approved. It will be the size of 12 football pitches and on a site off Lower Dunton Road, generating enough power to supply 2,300 homes.
